[download] of the day: TeraCopy
This is for all the Windows users out there. Copying/moving files in Windows is slow. Period. Fortunately, there are alternatives, one such being TeraCopy. TeraCopy is much faster then Windows Explorer, and allows you to see just how fast you files are being moved/copied. One very nice feature is: TeraCopy allows you pause you move/copy, and resume at any time.
TeraCopy is one of the first applications I install on a new Windows installation, and I highly recommend it.
[download] of the day: web browsers
Are you still using Internet Explorer? Which version are you running? 6? 7? 8? Do you even know? It’s time to upgrade to a better browser. Luckily for you, there are 3 excellent choices:
To avoid personal bias, I’m not going to reveal which one I use.
Firefox is the jack-of-all-trades. Hundreds of add-ons and themes allow you to personalize Firefox to fit your needs. The newest version, 4.0, was released in March. Many improvements were made with the current version, and Firefox is once again a leading player.
Opera is also a great choice, as it is an all-encompassing browser. It includes a lot of features that Chrome and Firefox don’t. Opera has also been around since 1996, making it only a year younger then the oldest browser, Internet Explorer. Opera isn’t very well known, but it’s definitely one you should check out.
Lastly, we have Chrome. Chrome is Google’s new(er) pet project, and the by far the youngest browser here. Don’t let its age fool you - Chrome is still a very competent browser. For those looking for a simple, no-frills interface, Chrome would be the wise choice. Chrome also supports add-ons and themes, though not as many exist for it as for Firefox.
